So here we are at edition five. Thank you for being on this journey of discovery as I find my rhythm with this newsletter. I hope you’re finding it thought provoking and useful.

Let’s revisit the reflection I ended with last time (it’s here if you missed it):

What beliefs about my life are no longer serving me? And what do I dream I’ll be doing in five years?

I hope that provided some space to explore your belief systems and challenge where they may no longer be serving you. Dreaming about our future life can be a powerful way of then Designing the systems to get us there. But that can be really tough and it can be hard to know where to start.

When our nervous system is dysregulated (through things like trauma, environmental factors, fear and stress), it can be difficult to access our ‘wise mind’ or tap into our intuition. And that’s why it’s important to try to slow down, heal and connect with things that regulate us.

And when we start to question our inherited beliefs about ‘success,’ we begin carving a path toward a life we truly love.

The Challenge of Change

We have around 60,000 thoughts a day. 95% of them are the same as the ones we had yesterday and they can often hold a negative bias as our mind is wired to keep us safe. So you can see why change can be so difficult!

If we think about the hermit crab example of my last newsletter, it would have required a Daring spirit to challenge the fears of leaving the original shell. It knew it was time to move from the ‘familiar hell’ to the ‘unfamiliar heaven’.

The same applies to us. Growth requires letting go. Creating the conditions for change. Trusting that, despite the discomfort, the risk is worth the reward.

And when we find our authentic voice, use it, trust it and nurture it. Some people might try to hold you back from stepping into your authenticity but it doesn’t matter. Dr Seuss has your back…

Being around others that have been on a journey of self discovery, re-imagining and curiosity, gives us the confidence and optimism that things can be different.

So it’s been a privilege to create and facilitate a process of exploration for the wonderful You are The Media community that I’m part of.

I curated and facilitated a process that looked like this:

Session 1: ‘The Value of Values’

Session 2: ‘Living our Values. Rooted in Confidence’

Session 3: Redefining Success. Integrating our Values’

Lunch club (10th April); Re-invention. I’m hosting a panel of people that have made Daring decisions to change their path in life

And what have we found in this journey of discovery? We can sometimes start our careers climbing a ‘first mountain’ of independent ‘success’ but for some of us that’s not enough or something happens.

Through internal and/or external experiences, we can enter a valley of discovery and that opens up the space to build a second mountain of interdependent success. These theories are based on the work by David Brooks.

This process open ups the question of evolution vs revolution. How do we integrate our lived experience and career wisdom into the next chapter.

All good questions which I explore with individual coaching and group workshops. I’d love to share more information with you if you’d like to hear more.

On the Doing side of things, we’re in to the final week of B Corp Month, and I’m loving the work I’m doing with my fellow B Local Co-Chair, Jaimie Harris.

We’ve been involved in two amazing events and that will continue as this group of purposeful people grows.
