If you’d told me this time last year that I’d be here, writing a newsletter about the path we’re building, I wouldn’t have believed you. I certainly didn’t have a map. In fact, if anything, what I had was worse than that, I’d forgotten my intuition and was often self sabotaging. Life can be really hard. We do our best, make small choices, try things out, follow hunches and only later when we look back, we can see how the dots started to connect. For me, there’s never been a grand plan - not in my corporate career, not in this new path and definitely not in my personal life. Some days were just about making it through. But each small move, each decision and each time I chose curiosity rather than fear, I was inadvertently shaping the journey. I was always looking for the next step. And now I can see that those steps provided the skills and experience I needed to launch the first Natural Network event: Hosting charity film screenings taught me how to use Ticket Tailor and Stripe. Writing this newsletter began as a passion project (based on the philosophies of one of my heroes Buckminster Fuller) but quickly showed me how to use email systems. In a process of beginning to heal from the loss of my mum, reading her books and journals led me to remember the deep intergenerational wisdom that I’d forgotten. Saying yes to conversations, workshops or even a short call that felt scary, led to collaborations I never could have planned. Moments of rest, reflection and sometimes just sitting still, have been as important as the action. Going to Four Acre farm and learning about natural systems has taught me more about business strategy than any Exec leadership course I ever attended
We rarely know what we’re building while we’re building it. And who knows what the future holds as the significance of our actions isn’t always apparent..
